  41.    We just brought this up in sci.physics. I mentioned a CNN news article
  42. from several months ago which named the three countries which used imperial
  43. measurements as standards. One of the others, I believe, was Malta, though
  44. it may on second thought have been Burma since I tend to confuse the two. I
  45. couldn't and can't remember the third, though it was certainly not a major
  46. nation. Great Britain uses kilometres now.
  47.    Somebody then posted that CNN was wrong, the official units of the USA
  48. are metric units, as decreed by congress in 18?5 (1855, I think). He said
  49. that the only reason the traditional units were used was for the
  50. convenience of immigrants from countries which still used the imperial
  51. units. Oh well, the government of Malta thanks all you thoughtful people
  52. who put up signs in miles even though all americans prefer kilometres :-)
